Dorucin contains liposomal doxorubicin, a formulation of the anthracycline antibiotic doxorubicin encapsulated in liposomes. It is designed to improve the delivery of the drug to cancer cells while reducing the risk of damage to healthy tissue. Liposomal encapsulation alters the drug's pharmacokinetics, enhancing its efficacy and safety.
Breast Cancer
Ovarian Cancer
Multiple Myeloma (in combination with other drugs)
Kaposi's Sarcoma in patients with HIV/AIDS
Liposomal doxorubicin intercalates into DNA, disrupting topoisomerase II activity, and inhibits DNA replication and RNA transcription. The liposomal delivery system allows prolonged circulation and targeted accumulation in tumor tissues, minimizing systemic toxicity.
